What I want for the SBCSC
My name is Carlos Leyva. I am running as the District 4 Candidate. Carlos Leyva for School Board
I am an advocate for those who want to be treated with respect and dignity. I have experience in education, business, athletics, and law. I am currently working in higher education. I have been listening to the community for the past 4 years. I have been attending the board meetings and community forums. And I have been asked to run for School Board by the community. I am a lifelong South Bend resident, born and raised on the Westside. I am a different kind of leader. I am a champion for education and believe in building bridges. I am here to build the trust and the change. I am a common sense and modest person, from a working blue-collar middle-class family. I am no celebrity and do not strive for power and status. There are 22,000 registered voters in my district. I have the passion and commitment to bring positive change and moral to SB Schools. Which is why I am going to need the support of everyone to reach out to the voters and win the seat.
My vision and goals for the SBCSC are as follows. The board seats should reflect the diverse taxpayers of the community. We need to and will build an equitable school district, hold administration accountable, be financially responsible, call for budget transparency, build a safe haven for students, build community partnerships and a sense of pride in our community, and be an advocate and voice for South Bend students, families, teachers and support staff.
We cannot be satisfied with the current graduation rates. Every high school should be at least 90%. Literacy rates will need to be elevated as well. This will be achieved by a commonsense student code of conduct, a larger team of social workers, and stronger support and pay for teachers and staff, who are the heart of education. This election is winnable and these goals are attainable when we all work together. Vote November 5th for Carlos Leyva for School Board District 4.
